History of the ICC Champions Trophy

The ICC Champions Trophy was an international cricket tournament contested by the top eight teams in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings. It was held every four years from 1998 to 2017, and was replaced by the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League in 2020.

The tournament was originally known as the ICC KnockOut Trophy, and was renamed the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002. It was contested by 12 teams in its first four editions, but was reduced to eight teams in 2006.

In the 2002 final, India and Sri Lanka were declared joint winners after the match was washed out twice.
