Nathan Lyon for 500 test wickets
Perth, Australia: As Australia and Pakistan clash in Perth, all eyes are on Nathan Lyon’s historic quest for his 500th Test wicket. Sitting on 496, he’s just a scalp away from joining Aussie greats Warne and McGrath. With Perth being his personal spin paradise (22 wickets in 3 Tests), Pakistan knows he’s the man to watch.
Aussie Lyon, averaging over 7 wickets per Test at Perth and currently on 496, is poised to claim the coveted 500-wicket milestone in the Pakistan series, likely ahead of Indian rival Ashwin (on 489) who faces South Africa next.
Twenty years after the Legendary Spinner Warne-Muralitharan 500 wicket in Test history, another epic spin showdown unfolds.
Lyon considers Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin his coach
Lyon described Indian Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin as a world-class and had a close watch on his bowling career. Also indicated as his coach, as quoted by Cricket.com.au.
Nathan Lyon says that Ashwin has, in a way, probably been one of his biggest coaches and that he has nothing but respect for him. I often think that the rest of the world rates Ashwin much higher than India does.

“You look at Ashwin, he’s a world-class bowler and somebody I’ve watched closely from the start of his career. We’ve gone head-to-head many times in different conditions around the world. I’ve got nothing but respect for Ashwin and the way he’s gone about it. I’ve definitely learned from him,” Lyon
“There’s an opportunity to learn from the people you play against, and without knowing it he’s probably been one of my biggest coaches in a way. It’s pretty amazing to see we’re both creeping up to that 500 mark, and we’ll see where we end up.
Hopefully at the end of our career we’ll sit down and have a nice feed and a beer and talk about it.”
