Sydney: On January 3rd (Wednesday) 2024, the first day of the ongoing third test between Australia and Pakistan, Pat Cummins became the highest wicket-taker with his five-wicket haul in the WTC.
Pat Cummins creates history with his 5wicket haul
Pat Cummins, Australia’s star fast bowler, made history on Wednesday during the third Test against Pakistan in Sydney. He surpassed Nathan Lyon’s record to become the bowler with the most wickets in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), taking five wickets in the first innings.
Cummins has now grabbed 163 wickets in 38 WTC matches for Australia. Notably, he also started the year strong by taking five wickets in both innings of the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan.
Cummins was the clear star of the show for Australia, taking wickets at regular intervals and never allowing the Pakistani batsmen to settle. He got off to a great start by dismissing openers Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub for ducks, and then went on to claim the key wickets of Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Sajid Khan, and Hasan Ali.

Cummins’ performance was met with much praise from fans on social media, who hailed him as a “bowling machine” and a “true match-winner”. His latest five-wicket haul was his third in a row in Tests, and he is now firmly established as one of the best fast bowlers in the world.
Cummins’ performance was a major setback for Pakistan, who will need to bat much better in the second innings if they want to have any chance of winning the match. Australia, on the other hand, will be looking to press home their advantage and take a 2-0 lead in the series.
