Trent Boult started the World Cup slowly, but New Zealand got off to a winning start
Trent Boult had a slow start to his World Cup campaign, taking only one wicket against England and going wicketless against the Netherlands. However, New Zealand won both matches, thanks to strong performances from other bowlers like Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner.
Ferguson returned to form against Bangladesh, taking three wickets in his 10 overs, while Santner was economical, taking one wicket and conceding just 31 runs in his 10 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim was the only Bangladeshi batsman to make a significant contribution, scoring 66 off 75 balls.
Boult was selected for the 2023 World Cup squad despite not having a central contract. He decided in August 2022 to pull out of his central contract with New Zealand Cricket (NZC). The decision was driven by his desire to spend more time with his young family and his growing fatigue from overseas tours.
Boult, a hero in the 2019 World Cup, was playing without a central contract
Boult was a hero for New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup, where the Black Caps narrowly lost to England in the final. He took 17 wickets from 11 matches, striking early in the powerplay overs.
