Ranji Trophy 2024: Pujara smashes double ton in Ranji Trophy 2024, reminding selectors he’s ready for England Tour. Also his 8th double century in the Ranji Trophy. While Paras Dogra is in the first position with 9 double centuries.
Cheteshwar Pujara Scored his 8th Double-Century.
Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped from the Test squad against South Africa by BCCI, But Pujara took revenge by a brilliant 17th double century in the Ranji Trophy for Saurashtra.
Pujara’s 243 not out off 356 balls helped Saurashtra amass a mammoth 578 for 4 declared against Jharkhand in Rajkot. This was Pujara’s 17th first-class double century, and it came against a hapless Jharkhand bowling attack that was completely outclassed.

Pujara’s knock was a masterclass in patience and concentration. He reached his half-century in 162 balls on Day 2, then converted his hundred into a double on Day 3. He maintained a steady strike rate throughout his innings, reaching the 200-run mark in 317 balls.
Pujara was ably supported by Prerak Mankad, who scored an unbeaten 104. The two batsmen put on a partnership of 214 runs, which took Saurashtra’s total past 500 and gave them a commanding lead of over 400 runs.
Pujara’s double century has come at a time when his place in the Indian Test team is under threat. He has not been part of the squad since the World Test Championship final in July 2023, and young Shubman Gill has taken his place at No. 3. Gill, however, failed to score runs in the recent Test series against South Africa, and his performance has come under scrutiny.
India is scheduled to play a five-match Test series against England starting January 25. Pujara’s double century is a timely reminder of his class and experience, and it could see him force his way back into the Indian Test team.
