In a recent Ranji Trophy match, 22-year-old Riyan Parag, the captain of Assam, staged a remarkable comeback. Assam was in a tough spot, forced to follow on by Chhattisgarh after trailing by a significant 168 runs.

In this challenging situation, Parag played a heroic innings, smashing a century in just 56 balls. His aggressive batting included 11 fours and an impressive 12 sixes, helping Assam reach a respectable total of 254 in the second innings. This remarkable effort, especially considering the crumbling batting line-up, set a challenging target of 87 runs for Chhattisgarh.

This redemption for Parag comes after a challenging year, notably in the Ranji Trophy where Assam struggled against Sourabh Manjumdar’s bowling. Parag’s recent domestic performances, however, present a different story.

Earlier in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2023, he displayed consistency with seven consecutive fifties. This contrasts with his lackluster performance in the 2023 Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals, where he faced criticism for scoring only 78 runs in seven matches.
